(7/22) LAMPshop: Artist-Activists Community Workshops

LAMPshop

Live Arts Media Arts Project Community Arts Workshops

Join Detroit Summer’s Live Media Arts Project (LAMP) for weekly artist community workshops.

LAMP is a production of youth artists and adult artist mentors who have decided to respond to the crisis in education, particularly around the issue of drop-outs, emphasizing the critical voices of youth. Whereas mainstream dialogue on this issue reduces youth to mere statistics and puts forward a band-aid or reactionary solutions to the crisis, the goal of this project is to center the concerns and creativity of young people in the debate over the current crisis in education. The final product of the program will be an enhanced CD that expresses the voices and visions of youth, artists and activists from the Detroit community.

Since July 1, LAMP opens our doors, hearts and minds to the larger artist community in order to

collectively explore various aspects of the drop out crises and to make art. Each Saturday will focus on a different art form, from hip hop writing to stencil-making.

Join us this Saturday, July 22 for another exciting installment of LAMPshop, facilitated by local talent, poet/spoken word artists Angela Jones and Will Copeland.

Date: Saturday, July 22

Time: 1-4pm

Place: Youthville Detroit, 7375 Woodward, Room 1050
